Lido Ghali - Philosophy

Lido Ghali is a freelancer Web Designer/Developer based in The City of Derry / Londonderry Northern Ireland from 2003 to present day.

Lido principles about designing and developing for web is no different than building a house, there are rules, regulations to follow before adding the individual touch. Many designers and developers forget that at the end of the rope are mostly users with average IT knowledge.  A typical web user is an impatient person sitting behind the screen, waiting for a specific data to appear, taking most of the time decisions depending on ranking and keywords used, or he or she will just type the website URL, they are sensitive, touchy, easily frustrated.

A website is technically reflecting the World Wide Web (www) serving data in all its form, simple text, images, multimedia, etc via the internet. A browser is needed to display the website. Key success for design and developing a website depends most of the time on accessibility and compatibility. Users expect to navigate easy, on their preferred or available browser. Designer and developers are expected to keep in mind that not everybody has the latest browser and plug-in updates, many users browse the internet under a very restricted atmosphere for security reasons, and many famous websites can not be displayed in public network areas.

Using a “cutting edge” technology is not always a good choice, it’s intimidating, discriminative and very selective, some designers and developers claim that it is very important to think about the look than to care about the boring restriction of functionality, accessibility and compatibility; others think that it’s an educational process to push the latest cutting edge technology, but the last word and winner is the one who knows have to attract the credit card holders and customers.

Web Art, it’s what Lido describes when the look of a website is distractive and enigmatic to viewers,  it’s a website that displays data in a way that could be romantic, surrealistic, abstract, funky, grungy, etc. Most of these websites depend on the use of a massive amount of rich multimedia and sophisticated codes and scripts. A good example could be found in the FWA website under portfolio and personal websites.
